Tina Berning – fractured beauties

Tina Berning wanted to become an illustrator since the age of 11. At that time she did not know how to call that kind of profession, but Tina collected illustrations from magazins and newspapers to pin them to the walls of her children’s room. Tina Berning is born in Braunschweig and started her career as assitent at the studio of painter Bernd Zimmer. After it she studied illustration in Nürnberg.

Since ten years Berning is working as free artist and illustrator in Berlin. Her studio is located in Berlin Mitte, nestling between art galleries and creative agencies.

Mostly Tina Berning’s artwork deals with one topic: woman. The woman in Tina Berning’s illustrations looking pretty and delicate. Fine lines and subtle dashes unites with sheer blurs of color and filigree patterns. Sometimes the beauty is fractured by blended colours and blank areas.

Tina Berning’s illustrations primarily got published in magazins and newspapers, all over the world. In cooperation with agencys in New York and Tokio she’s working for an international clientele. In 2007 she reached the interim peak of his career, when the New York Times Magazines printed her drawing of Papst Benedikt XVI. on its cover.

Sometimes Tina needs a rest period to recharge herself with ideas and passion. Over a period of time she’s following her own intensions and changes in to a more free and artistic kind of work. During such a break Tina Berning created a collection of drawings which are already released as a book. “100 girls on cheap paper” shows Berning’s excellent free illustrations, drawn on old papers and notebooks.

Since 2008 Tina Berning is teaching at the “School of Art Weissensee” in Berlin. In 2010 she is part of the Berlin Square in Shanghai.
