The product design scene in Berlin is a very complex one and still in its up-and-coming phase. Big studios are rare. Small and fancy offices prevail. They are characterised by strong regional references and the proximity to art and culture. There are gentle heroes like 7.5 and CULTUREFORM, old hands like RAACKE DESIGN and ambitious youngsters like ETT LA BENN, LLOT LLOV and MARK BRAUN.
Design schools like the legendary school of art WEISSENSEE or the University of Arts UDK are enjoying international recognition. The high-level approach of design education makes german design attractive to companies and institutions worldwide. Design festivals like DMY and institutions like CREATE BERLIN or International Design Center IDZ are supporting young designers and aim to showcase a cross-section of Berlins design life throughout the world.
This year DMY takes place within the magnificent scenery of a former power plant right in the heart of Berlin. DMY brings together upcoming talents and professional designers to connect them to producers and design interested people from all over the world.
At the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai the visitors are able to see the latest masterpieces of the designers E27, ADAM & HARBORTH, STUDIO AISSLINGER and many more, selected by the curators FLIP SELLIN and JOERG SUERMANN.
