Graphic design in Berlin has a long lasting tradition. In the beginning of the 20. Century the graphic works by Peter Behrens for AEG constituded graphic design as an autonomous genre.
Today Berlin’s graphic design scene is flourishing more than ever. The amazing diversity of independent graphic artists, designers, illustrators, typographers, comic-strip artists, graphic agencies and advertisement studios arouses interest and curiosity worldwide. Great events like ILLUSTRATIVE, TYPO and PICTOPLASMA enjoy excellent reputations amongst the international graphic design scene.
The international design conference TYPO 2010 expects hundreds of visitors each year. More than 50 speakers are reporting about their passions in graphic design. In 2009, the ILLUSTRATIVE FESTIVAL presented 600 artworks from more than 60 artists. The festival not only showcased the quality and fantasy of graphic art but also illustrated how the different divisions of graphic design influence each other.
But its not all about art. Graphic design is the strongest part in Berlins creative industries. Big studios like META DESIGN and TRIAD create and develop campaigns and strategies for an international clientele. Graphic Design on the EXPO 2010 is well curated by one of Berlins most successful graphic designers: RABAN RUDDIGKEIT. Ruddigkeit creates corporate ideas and strategies for companies and institutions. Together with Alexander Branczyk, graphic designer and professor of typography he selected high class graphics of KATRIN FUNCKE, TIM DINTER and other Berlin graphic designers the BERLIN SQUARE will get completed.
