If you walk trough the streets of berlin you can not deny that graphic art rules the city. During the last 10 years Berlin became the capital of street art and illustration. Young talents, often from the Berlin art schools, show their skills by sticking and spraying their artwork on walls and houses. The graphic art has left the galleries and captures the whole city as canvas. Most street art work dissapears after some hours, but that’s part of the game. And vice versa the street art ranges from unpopular scribbling to well-paid artwork.
Galleries like the Berlin-Mitte located ATM, WEST BERLIN GALLERYand CIRCLECULTURE put their special focus on street art. Artists like NOMAD or JUST are widely recognized by the international art scene. The linear and poetic paintings by NOMAD have become part of the streets of berlin.
At Berlin Square in Shanghai, the HIPHOP HEADQUARTER is representing the popular Berlin street culture with breakdance and action painting events. The HIPHOP HEADQUARTER was founded in 2007 as a network for all hiphop activities like music, beatbox, dance and graffiti.
The performance by three “living” PICTOPLASMA characters created by Akinori Oshi is going to be another big highlight on the EXPO 2010. The PICTOPLASMA FESTIVAL is one of a kind – it assembles graphic characters from all disciplines like animation, streetart and illustration.
